Afghanistan

Updated: Mar 29, 2020

I must admit that when I think of Afghanistan, I'm more likely to think of deserts and soldiers than travel. However, it was a novel written by an Afghan American, Khaled Hosseini, that started me on my journey of traveling the world while staying at home. Even though I read it years ago, The Kite Runner is still one of my favorite books. Since many libraries are closed now, listen to The Kite Runner on Audible, read it on Kindle, or watch the movie through Amazon.

More options for experiencing Afghanistan while staying at home include:

Listen to Afghan music in this concert on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2vZQ5yFiu3A

Learn about the history of the conflict by watching Afghanistan: The Great Game at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6a7bP49ehKQ

Check out what you could be seeing if you were actually in Afghanistan at https://www.thecrazytourist.com/15-best-places-visit-afghanistan/

If you want to dive deep into Afghanistan, go to Google Books and search for Afghanistan. There are so many options.

Finally, when this pandemic is over, check out my favorite Afghan restaurant in Fremont, California, Fremont Afghan Kabob. Or even better, plan a trip to Afghanistan using your local travel advisor. Shout out to my favorite travel advisor, Kaitlin Darnell at Laura's Travel in Redlands. May the travel industry survive and thrive - may we all survive, thrive, recognize our mutual humanity, learn to deal with our conflicts, and allow peace and health to flourish in Afghanistan and throughout the world.
